Description

Disodium Hydrogen Citrate Syrup is known by the brand name “CITRASYNC

Syrup” and is a urine alkaliser employed in renal tubular acidosis, gout and kidney stone treatment. Kidney stones are little, firm mineral/acid salt concretions made of calcium, phosphate and various other minerals/acid salts that form in concentrated urine. Renal tubular acidosis is a condition in which the kidneys fail to expel adequate amounts of acid into the urine; this makes the blood too acidic.

Disodium hydrogen citrate syrup, which is metabolised to bicarbonate and increases the excretion of free bicarbonate ion, is found in disodium hydrogen citrate syrup. This raises the solubility of cysteine in urine and ionises uric acid into a soluble urate ion. This aids in raising the pH of the urine, which lowers its acidity.
